European Landscapes

EUROPEAN LANDSCAPES, a photographic portfolio of 11" x 14" gelatin silver prints, explored the light, texture and patterns of southern France, Greece and Turkey. Indirectly, these pictures emphasize man's relationship to the landscape. Contemplative spaces, devoid of the human figure, allow the viewer to move freely without the visual constraints that are imposed when others have established prior territorial rights. Although the human figure is not seen, man's hand on the landscape is evident in the photographs which deal with sculptural images of man and his gods. Also, some of man's architectural monuments have been explored in terms of both religious and pagan influences and the Roman ruins of Provence have been thematically repeated in the archeological ruins, relics and monuments which reflect the grandeur of ancient Greece and Turkey.
